Why More Couples Are Choosing Celebrant-Led Weddings

Why More Couples Are Choosing Celebrant-Led Weddings

Meet Luna & Light Ceremonies

Wedding days have changed so much over the years. Couples are moving away from feeling like they have to follow a set formula and are choosing celebrant-led weddings to create celebrations that genuinely reflect who they are.
From relaxed outdoor ceremonies to festival-style weddings, personal vows and meaningful family moments, today's couples want their wedding day to feel like them.
As wedding florists, we see this shift all the time. The most memorable weddings aren't always the ones with the biggest budgets or the most elaborate details — they're the ones filled with thoughtful touches that tell a couple's story.
That's why we love working alongside other local Liverpool wedding suppliers who share that same passion for creating something personal.
One supplier we've love you to meet is Steph from Luna & Light Ceremonies, a celebrant who creates completely bespoke wedding ceremonies written around each couple's unique story.

What Is A Celebrant-Led Wedding?

Celebrant Wedding vs Traditional Ceremony: What’s The Difference?

For many couples, the biggest difference is freedom and personalisation. A traditional church ceremony has a lot of beautiful history and meaning behind it, but it usually follows a set structure. A celebrant-led ceremony gives couples much more flexibility to create something that feels completely unique to them.

Traditional church ceremony:
A church wedding takes place in a religious setting, usually with a set layout, traditional seating, and rules around what can and can't be included.

Celebrant ceremony:
A celebrant ceremony can take place almost anywhere — a garden, woodland, beach, barn, family home, festival field, hotel, or any location that feels meaningful to the couple.
A celebrant ceremony gives couples the freedom to create a wedding ceremony that feels completely personal. Rather than following a standard script, your ceremony is written from scratch around your relationship, your memories, and the things that matter most to you.
Steph works with couples to include meaningful details such as:
•    Personal vows
•    Special readings
•    Symbolic rituals like handfasting or unity ceremonies
•    Involving children, family members or friends
•    Unique moments that reflect your relationship
The result is a ceremony that feels relaxed, natural and full of personality.

Meet Steph From Luna & Light Ceremonies

Hi, I'm Steph, the celebrant behind Luna & Light Ceremonies.
Steph's approach is simple — every couple deserves a ceremony that feels like theirs.
There are no templates, no copy-and-paste scripts, and no two ceremonies are ever the same. Instead, Steph takes the time to get to know each couple, understand their story, and create a ceremony that captures the little details that make their relationship special.
Whether you're planning an outdoor wedding, a barn celebration, a festival-style day or a traditional venue wedding, Steph helps couples create a ceremony filled with laughter, happy tears and moments they'll remember forever.
Her motto says it perfectly:
Your story, beautifully told.

Wedding Ceremony From A Celebrant’s Perspective

One of the reasons we love celebrant-led weddings is that they give couples the freedom to make their ceremony truly personal — and that often extends to the flowers too.
We asked Steph about some of the beautiful floral moments she's seen at weddings that have stayed with her.

A Floral Arch That Frames The Couple

There is something incredibly special about a floral arch.
From the moment guests arrive, it creates a beautiful focal point and naturally draws everyone's attention towards the couple. During the ceremony, it frames those all-important photographs and creates a backdrop that feels completely magical.
Whether it's filled with soft romantic blooms, wild seasonal flowers or lush greenery, a floral arch can transform even the simplest ceremony space. Its also worth having a look at how flower arrangements can be reused throughout your wedding day too

Wedding Flower Grannies

Move over flower girls — Wedding Flower Grannies are having their moment!
One of the sweetest trends Steph has seen is couples involving grandparents, aunties or special family members in the ceremony by giving them the honour of scattering petals before the couple arrives.
It's unexpected, joyful and usually guarantees plenty of smiles too.
It's also a lovely reminder that weddings don't have to follow traditions just because they've always been done that way. The best traditions are the ones that mean something to you.

Ceremony Flowers That Honour Loved Ones

Weddings are full of emotion, and sometimes the people we most wish could be there are the ones we miss the most.
Steph has seen couples include beautiful floral touches to honour loved ones who can't be part of the day and there are also so many beautiful remembrance ideas online too that other past brides have done. This could be flowers placed on a reserved chair, a favourite bloom included in a bouquet, or a small arrangement alongside a treasured photograph.
One particularly beautiful idea Steph recently discussed with a couple was created to honour the bride's mum, who had sadly passed away before the wedding day. Rather than having a traditional memorial tribute, they chose to make flowers part of the ceremony itself.
Each member of the wedding party will hand a single flower to the groom before the ceremony begins. When he meets the bride's dad at the end of the aisle, he will then hand those flowers to him. The bride will add the final flower herself, creating a meaningful collection of blooms that represents everyone coming together to support her and honour her mum's memory.
Later, those flowers will be wrapped into a bouquet for her dad to privately lay on her mum's grave — creating a lasting connection between the wedding day and the person they were remembering.

It's a beautiful reminder that flowers are not just decorations. They can carry memories, represent people we love, and become part of the moments that matter most.

Steph's Top Tips For Creating A Meaningful Wedding Ceremony

We loved Steph's advice for couples planning their wedding:
Choose a celebrant you connect with - Your celebrant will be part of one of the biggest moments of your life, so finding someone who makes you feel comfortable and understood is incredibly important.
Make it personal - Your guests want to hear your story. The little details, memories and moments that make you who you are as a couple are what make a ceremony unforgettable.
Don't be afraid to involve the people you love - Children, grandparents, friends and even pets can all have a special role to play.
Choose details because they matter to you - Whether that's your vows, music, readings or flowers, the best choices are always the ones with meaning behind them.
Most importantly — enjoy it - our ceremony should feel like the two of you. Relaxed, joyful and full of personality.
